Gone are those days where children were allowed to play far from their homes. Those were the days where one would walk from one village to the next fearlessly. The days where our grandparents would walk to the field to fetch wood on their own. Days where teenagers would stay out late without worrying about their safety. The days where neighbours provided shelter for their neighbour in times of need. What happened to the times we would share our crops with neighbours during harvest time? What went wrong in our hearts? What happened to the times where we would share our problems with each other? Is all the trust and honesty gone with the decades that passed? What happened to peace and stability amongst each other?
The lovely world has become so heartless that one would trade his/her own blood for money. So cruel that a person would kill another purposefully. The cruelty has surreptitiously penetrated the minds of citizens and their tongues preach hate. We have become so ignorant that we no longer protect a child if it’s not ours. We are neglecting the safety of the fellow neighbours. We no longer offer help to a person stuck on the roadside because we suspect the person to being an attacker.
Of course, we cannot all be friends. But let us at least develop brotherly love for one another. Let us look out for one another and support each other in times of need. Perhaps this is the time to take a step back and live together with the spirit of humanity, regardless of our skin colours. Dark or blue, we are all the from the same ancestor. Martin Luther King said: “We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” Galatians chapter 5 verse 14 says that we must love our neighbour as we love ourselves. Jimi Hendrix once said “When the power of love, will overcome the love of power; the world will know peace.”
Let us bring the love we had for each other as the whole world
GOD BLESS AFRICA
