The residents of Extension 78 and Mohlakaneng in Polokwane are beneficiaries of electrical projects to the tune of approximately R12.6 million as part of the municipality’s electrification programme. The Acting Executive Mayor and MMC for Energy Portfolio, Cllr Steve Mashabela introduced both the consultants and contractors to the two communities today
The Municipality will be electrifying a total number of 300 households with the budget of more R800 000b at Extension 78. More than 170 community members will be employed through the Extended Public Works Programme during the project implementation.
Another contractor was handed over at Mohlakaneng RDP section where a total number of 167 households will be electrified. The project budget of more than R4 600 000 will be utilised and a total number of 65 local labourers will be temporary employed through EPWP.
The Acting Executive Mayor requested the communities to work together with the contractors in order to fast-track the implementation and meet the times frames allocated for the projects to be completed. He said once electrified the residents from the two areas will have their lives improved as they will be enjoying the benefits of having electricity.
The projects are supposed to be completed by September 2017.The municipality will use the method of installing underground cables during the electrification project in Extension 78 and Mohlakaneng RDP to reduce the cable theft.
The members of the communities appreciated the commencement of the electricity projects in their villages by the municipality.
